My email has been hacked. They spammed everyone in my address book - and all my contacts are gone.?
I use Yahoo mail and this has happened to me yesterday, too. I ran an anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-trojan horse, etc. and it showed nothing.

What are penalties for email hacking in the USA?
A very good friend of mine recently was the victim of email hacking. The hacker hacked 2 of my friends email accounts(1 AOL, and 1 Yahoo).
On the AOL account, he sent out a email to everyone on my friends buddy list saying my friend was gay, and a photo of a naked guy was in the email too.
On the Yahoo account, the hacker has hacked it numerous times and deleted the Flickr account associated with that Yahoo account, but nothing else was done
My friend who was hacked think it is a friend of ours who did it. My friend says he has proof that our friend did it since he has copies of the IP address used, but thats for the Yahoo account only. We dont have any proof yet that he hacked the AOL account. We are attempting to get that proof now.
What kind of penalties is he looking at if charged with hacking both accounts and sending the email? What about if he's just charged with hacking the Yahoo account? How much jail time? Amount of fines? Can anything else happen to him?

Is there an email hacking software compatible for Mac OS X? ?
I know this is crazy to ask this..however, my 10 yr old email has been hacked by some dumba** in Nigeria and sending emails to all of my address book that I'm stuck in Africa and I need $1450 to get back to the US. I've tried contacting yahoo and I've tried to remember my security question and can't. So there's no other way for me to get my email back unless I find a software that I can use on my Mac to hack into my old email.. I can't find anything out there compatible..Only for windows and PCs. my father lately is experiencing problems with his yahoo account. periodically, his passwords get changed such that he cannot log in with the password he had set and when he retrieves a new password and logs in, he notices that all his mails in his inbox, sent folder, spam and trash folders are deleted. its like almost having a new account. I am guessing someone hsomehow is hacking his account repeatedly. Is there any way to find out who does it or why is it happening and more importantly a way to prevent this from happening?

Apart from not using personal information as your password or answers to retrieve your password, make sure that you use a password that combines letters, numbers and symbols. It is also a good idea to incorporate capital and small letters instead of merely using all caps or all small letters. This increases the number of combinations that a hacker would need to decipher, lowering his or her chances to access your account. With regards to your password retrieval, do not use actual information. Instead, provide information that you would be able to remember yet something that is unrelated to you since the first few tries of a hacker will be to use accurate and actual information regarding you to retrieve your password.
Do not leave important emails in your mailbox :
The moment you receive a confirmation letter from a website where you have signed up, print out the information or write it down on a notepad and delete the email immediately. This would ensure that no personal information would be derived directly from your email whether by a hacker or a close friend.
Change password regularly :
Make sure that you change your passwords and answers to retrieve your password information on a regular basis. This is to ensure that by the time that a hacker has been able to decipher your old password you are now using a different password which would then cause them to go back to square one. This is particularly important if you have allowed someone to access your email or other account with your permission to prevent the possibility of them accessing your accounts without your consent in the future.

Conspiracy Theory: Palins Email Hacked?
This is strictly for fun.
This is not about the fact that hacking email is illegal (we all know it is)
nor is it about how her privacy was violated (ethically it was, no matter if you think it was partially justified).
So last night I was reading about all this and found a chat thread were a few people were ticked because the know the conspiracy theory people will immediately blame the DNC camp and Obama.
Others pointed out that while that was an easy conclusion to reach, it was really too simple an answer given that only the most useless information from the account got publicly posted (seeded across) on the web. That a more interesting assumption was that Karl Rowe had it done so he can spin it into a sort of watergate issue and make people sympathize with the victim, i.e. Palin.
As I'm going to sleep though a beautiful theory occurs to me. What if this is Carleton Fiorina paying back Sarah Palin for cutting her off from the main campaign? That's a great motive for someone who probably has the skills to do it in an untraceable way. Plus it has the added benefit of them almost certainly turning back to Carly for advise on how to toughen up their PC security to prevent another hacking!

It's a clever Machiavellian way for her to become President. And as Vice President, she could keep Bill out of sight at Cheney's secret undisclosed location.

I used 2 be a "hacker" i tricked people into giving me there **** then i just read there email kinda creepy i know but you could getinto alot of trouble like permentent loss of access to a computer so i say if your trying 2 **** w a buddy do it, if your ******* w some douche bag then i say insted of taking over his acct just go 2 a bunch o free porn sites and use his email address, and if your trying 2 take his account because u want the emailaddress cuz its cool or u want 2 pretend 2 b them(for a fun puropse not id theft then i say its up 2 u theres a 90% chance he will just make a new account and forget about it but if your using it as a part of id theft then i completly advise against it
