Can you protect your email account from it being hacked into?

Just wanna know if you can do anything to protect your email account so no-one can go into it and read your messages or at least if they do you have their details to pass to the police. Im asking cos I have heard that it is possible to hack into someones email and Im worried that my gf's ex (IT consultant) boyfriend might try and spy on me or send emails in my name. Any help appreciated.

OMG DUDE!!!! CURRENTLY HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM... however he is hacking and it doesnt matter what password or how many times she changes it....


i now only send emails with the readnotify service..


it basically uses your current email everything but then gives you the time place and ip etc of who opened it/forwarded it etc.


i have tons of evidence and on this guy and my girlfriends is in process of hanging this guy UP WITH IT....





If he is good he may use proxy address i.p.'s but will eventually screw up and check it with his own..... then ya got him as the police can get as much intel as they want via an ip as citizens cant..... just know your girlfriends ip and anyone with a differnt on is him... good luck and LETS SCREW ALL OF THESE PATHETIC IMMATURE LOOSERS WITH NO LIFE.....

but you can use some cheats ;).


if you know that nobody can know your email password maybe now there is a program that get your password (by you) and give it to others.


But I think the best ways are:


1) Check your emails under secure computer( a computer that you don't use it for other reason. (you can buy another cheap computer)


2) Send a trojan program whenever your email hacked!!!

All you can do is introduce a level of security whereby its not worth the effort.





Change your passwords regularly and make them long and a combination of letters and numbers
Reply:Its easier to keep a web-based email for security reasons then a pop3 account, however those are easier to hack into (though the data cannot access the rest of your pc). So the best solution is to just change your pw frequently and randomly, and you should have no problems.

A webmail client such as hotmail, yahoomail, gmail etc, then you are the only defence, Use a longer, obscure password with letters numbers and symbols, and make sure your secret questions/answers are not details known by others. Or if you must use something like the town you were born, well I was born in "haverfordwest", but would use "h4\/3rf0r|)\/\/35t." Webmail clients rely heavily on how smart the usaers are for personal security aspects.





If your on an exchange server eg at school, college, or work, speak to your server administrator about security concerns on your account.





All I can recommend is being smart with your passwords.
