My husband and I separated in October. He's stationed in Korea and I'm in Florida. From Korea, he went into my email account and read my emails in December. Did he break any laws when he did this?
Is email hacking illegal?
yes by the computer act 1985 no comouter hacking of any web cams or e-mail.
Reply:Maybe, but who is going to prosecute this? You probably already eliminated any evidence there might have been. Someone would have to travel to Korea to get him to admit he did it and that might not hold up in court.
Run full virus and other malware scans to be sure there isn't a key logger hidden in the system. You'll probably need help to check any deeper for stuff the anti-malware programs might not find.
I strongly suggest you change every password on everything you use online. Be sure to use strong passwords that can't be easily guessed. Write them all down and store them in a safe place away from the computer.
Make sure that the email addresses for all your accounts match your current one. It is often trivial to "reset" a password to find out what it is.
My suggestions might seem a bit paranoid, on the other hand, you only know about one thing. There may be others.
