He changed his password and it would go back to his original password that he changed. He suspects his ex girlfriend. Does Yahoo have a program or something that keeps an eye on your email? Shes been curious what is in the email. the things he wrote about her was word for word she repeated back

When you click the forgot password link, Yahoo sends you a temporary password to your alternate mail account. If after using this new password it changes back to the old one, it cannot simply do that by itself. Even if your friend's Ex knew the alternate account and could check it to find the temp password, she would have a very hard time changing it back to the old one. Since you say she repeated some conversations word for word that she could not possibly have known of - have you tried checking the system for spyware like keyloggers? That would explain a lot!
